“YOU MUST HAVE THIS SYSTEM!!!!!!!!!
We got this home theater system at Christmas and have been so please with it. It is rare you find an LG brand system for this price (we paid 199.99 on sale). The item has so much clarity and creates for an ambient atmosphere when listening to music. I has a variety of sound options that make it appropriate for any genre of music. The speakers are very small and have wall mounts on the back. The actual receiver is sleek and beautiful. Very modern. When you change over to VSM mode on your remote it amps up the sound and creates an atmosphere perfect for any part or get together. There are other sound modes as well such as church or hall or concert…that can change the sound for each genre. It may only be 155 WATT but it can sure put out alot of sound. My neighbors can hear it playing all the way down the street. We have been so pleased. We are planning on adding additional speakers to the system including an outdoor speaker. Earlier this year I recommended two other friends to purchase it and they did. They feel the same as I do about the incredible quality. This is item is a must have for anybody who wants an affordable home theater system with incredible power and beauty. We get asked about where to get one all the time. The IPOD FEATURE is 2 die for. Between our friends and my husband and I we have probably 6 or 7 ipods. At parties everyone has theirs with them and we take turns sharing music. Since it displays what is on your ipod on your screen everyone can see the full menu of songs and pick what they want to hear. We use it constantly. We also purchased an additional cable to run our laptop through the home theater system so we could use the computer on our TV screen. This is one of the features the system comes with but it does not include the cable. The ipod cable is included at no charge.”
“I got this as a wedding gift for my “man-land” home theater. Once I finally got around to setting it up I was very pleased with everything I saw. Adequate speaker wire, all the cables I needed (although the HDMI was a little short so I used some old component cables I had lying around) and easy installation – they color code it to make it as simple as possible.
Everything worked out of the box EXCEPT the remote control. I circumvented that by using my directv universal remote for BASIC functions, but cannot do anything advanced at this time.
BUYER BEWARE!!!!
I called LG to have them send me a new remote. This was a wedding gift and I felt funny asking Auntie Louise (fictional) for the receipt for something she gave me 2 months ago. LG would not even send me to customer service for tech support because I could not corroborate the warranty status of the purchase despite the printed manufacture date on the back was Oct 07 and this was Dec 07!!! Long story short the supervisor was going to have one sent to me in 15-21 business days – I’m not holding my breath as LG never returned my initial service call after a 1 hour wait on hold!
Otherwise, great sound, great picture, great system, great price its the best home theater system !”

“This sleek looking system has plenty of quirks that will have you wondering if the price tag was worth it. I found this on a great sale and paid only $190 for it, but the average price is around $300. At that price, you’ll be getting a very basic system with reasonable sound quality. However, you’ll be giving up an intuitive interface (you have to have the TV on!), surround sound (it’s a 2.1 system), and the ability to control EQ levels.
We also had a quirk with our unit: The radio changed stations on its own!
We exchanged the first one we purchased, and the second one had the same problem only minutes after it was out of the box. I’m not sure if we’re going to keep it or not. The price just can’t be beat, but some of the quirks are making it hard to tolerate the lack of any superior qualities.”

“Got mine at circuit city last month. I got a good deal because it was an open box. I paid $120.00 for it! the sales person recommended it. I was getting a samsung but there was something wrong with it. i ended getting a LG. I’m glad i got it. The system feels solid. It is easy to connect though the speaker wires are low-cost. the system sounded great.almost like in a movie theater. This is my first system and i’m loving it!I had King kong dvd it growls!!! i suggest either using hdmi output or the component video output the pictures looks sharper using those connections.”

“I recently acquired the LG LGDVT418 Home Theater in a Box System. First let me get to the Specs.
Specs
-Total output: 600 watts (receiver: 90W x 5 @ 6 ohms, 10% THD; subwoofer: 150W @ 6 ohms, 10% THD)
- DVD Player supports DVD-Video, DVD-Audio. DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, CD, CD-R/RW, Kodak Picture CD, MP3, WMA and JPEG formats.
- 8 DSP Soundfields
-Digital AM/FM tuner with 50 station presets
-5 matched satellite speakers — each with 2.2″ mid-range and 0.5″ tweeter; 8″ passive subwoofer
-Inputs: 1 optical digital, 1 coaxial digital, 1 analog audio, 1 video
- Outputs: 1 S-video, 1 component video, 1 composite video, 1 headphone
Setup
Right out of the the box the setup was straight forward and simple. Included with the system is plenty of speaker wire. I do however recommend upgrading to 12 gauge wire as the standard wire I think is 16 gauge. All of the connections on the receiver are well laid out. With about a hour of work you should be up and running watching movies in 5.1 surround sound.
Features
One the coolest features of this HTIB is the ability to adjust the distance of the speakers relative to the listening position via a menu in the setup section of the receiver. In layman’s term it allows you to: i.e. adjust for the right speaker being 1.5 ft closer to you than the left speaker is.
Another neat feature of the system is the DSP soundfields (i.e. Dance, Rock, Jazz, Concert Hall). Listening to a CD with 5 speakers and a subwoofer playing almost seems like you are there seeing the event live.
The speakers themselves are great. I have heard better but at this price point there are none better. This system is on par with names such as Infinity and Onyko. The four speaker come with their own stands, which was one the major reasons I purchased this unit.
By far the best feature is the ability to play DVD Audio CD’s. There are not a lot of DVD Audio CD’s available. DVD Audio takes full advantage of Dolby Digital 5.1 Imagine listening to a CD and hearing sounds coming at you from the left, right, behind you at different times. It’s a new experience in listening to music.
The DVD player handled every kind of media I threw at it. I have to admit I was worried that the DVD player would not play my extensive collection of DVD-R’s. It played everything without even as much as a hiccup.
Gripes
- The speaker stands themselves are a little flimsy. One fall and they could possibly break
- Speaker wire included is only 16 gauge (Recommend 12 gauge)
- No audio outputs. The reason I am complaining is because I want to run Bass Shakers in my home theater and have no way of getting the audio signal to the Bass Shaker amp.
Conclusion
This is a great system for the beginner in Home Theater. Everything is included to make installation a breeze. Overall quality of construction is superb.”

“Let me first frame what I was looking for in a system since it might differ from yours. The first thing I needed was a physically small package. The cabinet I bought to fit under my new 56″ DLP HDTV was too shallow to hold my old surround sound system. DUH!! Is that cut twice, measure once or measure twice, cut once…
Next in importance was a multi-disk changer with Progressive Scan and 1080 upconvert. I was flexible on most other things. Armed with that, I compared the Sony DAV-X1V (pricey), Phillips HTS6500 (1 disk), Bose (very pricey), Denon (1 disk), Samsung HT series (size), JVC and others.
The LG met all my requirements and more. I liked the added features that included the USB port (see below). It has AM/FM bands and you can even connect and play an XM receiver. I also liked that it had HDMI connections and had an Optical audio out connector. The disk can play all the various DVD/CD formats as well. The price was right – I caught it on sale at Best Buy for $375.
It was relatively easy to set up. It doesn’t come with an HDMI cable which can be expensive. I bought a “cheap one” on ebay that works ok. Also, unless I did something wrong, I could not get HDTV upconvert until I hooked up the HDMI cable and that really makes a difference in playing DVD movies (Component Video didn’t get it). As mentioned, it has all the right connections: coax, optical, s-video, composite video and HDMI. AM & FM antennas are included with the unit.
I’m not an audiophile so the sound is adequate for me. The subwoofer puts out some fairly strong bass sound effects in movies. I think the sound has reasonable depth and richness to it. I don’t have my front speakers spaced as wide as they should be for good surround sound but still feel the sound is adequate – not tinny or cheap sounding but don’t expect theater level sound either.
The versatile remote is full featured and lets you set up a variety of sound modes (Stage, Theater, etc.) It also handles DTS DVD 5.1/6 channel sound as well as Pro Logic I & II, 3D surround, Virtual sound (2.1 channel), multichannel (10.1 ch.) and XTS for enhanced woofer or to send front speaker sound to the rear speakers.
The USB port (and AV inputs for your camera) are conveniently available behind a flip down door on the front. To me, this is one of the unit’s neatest features which allows me to play songs from a USB flash drive. I can copy songs from my computer to a flash drive and plug it into the LG USB port, hit play and have my own juke-box of songs. You can do the same thing with digital pictures (jpg) and play these from your USB FlashDrive either one at a time or create a slide show. Of course you can do all this from CD’s as well but I find the Flash Drive much more convenient and versatile.
Overall, the unit is attractive. I like the blue lighted front dial and the dialog on the front panel screen that can display song titles and other information.”
“I recently purchased a home theater in a box made by a different, more recognized, brand only to get it home to find that it did not have any digital inputs. So, I decided to return it, and I ended up exchanging it for this system. I was very pleasantly surprised. This HTIB has everything that I could want and more- HDMI upconverting dvd, DTS decoder, digital inputs for my other devices, plus two AV ins (handy since I wanted to hook up two game consoles, now I don’t have to buy a switch!). Plus the sound is outstanding. Movies in DTS sound like at the theater. The quality is easily as good or better than similarly priced systems of other brands. I also enjoy the shiny black speaker stands and subwoofer.”
