History of the Home Theater Sound system

8mm Kodak and Pathe 9.5mm film were the foundations of the first home theater’s as this film size and associated projection equipment was becoming cheap enough for many people to afford in the 50’s. The movies watched were mainly family movies of holidays and special events projected onto screens with small movie projectors. These screens were portable and most of the films had no sound. The more wealthy had what was called a screening room in which 16mm or 35mm movie projectors were set up in a room used only for watching movies. Many of these places screened commercial movies as well as the family style films. Sound and color continued to get steadily better with advancements in technology throughout the 60s and into the 70s until the Video Cassette Recorder or VCR was introduced and instantly wiped out the 8mm film market. These were the first devices to connect directly to a television and therefore required no screen or projector. The VCR reigned supreme till the CD and DVD came along and the fall of the VCR was just as rapid as its earlier rise over the 8mm movie film projectors.

Home Screening Rooms

If you are really serious about your movie watching you can convert a room into a special mini theatre complete with wall screen and projector room. Some movie buffs even furnish these rooms with popcorn machines and adorn the walls with movie posters. Theater seats with cup holders just like the ones in regular cinemas can be fitted in these rooms. Another favorite option is to install luxury reclining seats with footrests and snack trays.

They are made up of three main items the first is the processing center or device  which takes the signals from the second item which is the input sources and translates them to sound and vision via the third item which is the output devices.

Processer – This unit contains an array of input and output sockets and can accept a range of different input signals depending on the model you buy and converts them into an output  compatible with your viewing screen as well as amplifying sound signals for your speaker system.
Inputs – these are the source of your music or movies and be anything from DVD to Blu-ray with facilities for home video camera , gaming consoles, I-Pods, computers and various other devices to be able to connect to your system.
Outputs – These are the sound and vision devices you have connected to the unit, all the speakers including subwoofer units and your television  or screen.
